PEOPLE are being urged to attend a meeting to help save a local group for adults with learning disabilities.
Friends2Friends (F2F), which began life in 2012, says its future is now in doubt over funding concerns.
A community meeting is taking place at 11am tomorrow (17th June) at Cruck House on Stowe Street in a bid to help generate fundraising ideas to help keep the group open.
Co-ordinator Alison Wellon said the running costs – which currently total around £5,000 a month – meant the work of the organisation was now at risk.
“Since 2012, Friends2Friends has been a lifeline for adults with learning disabilities and other vulnerable adults across Lichfield.
“We’re a fun, friendly, member-led group passionate about helping people make friends, grow in confidence and live fuller, more independent lives.
“But now we need help to survive.”
Alison said that Friends2Friends had provided a range of opportunities to members over the years, including helping them to gain jobs and qualifications, speak at national conferences, build friendships and carry out fundraising events.
She added:
“We’ve empowered people, built community and changed lives. But now we are facing unprecedented financial challenges.
“Rising costs and a lack of core funding mean we may be forced to close, putting our work, our members and our staff at risk.
“Our members fundraise and contribute what they can, but we can’t do it alone.”
As well as the meeting, the group has also launched an online fundraising page.
Alison said:
“With your support, we can continue to help people live independently and ensure that their voices continue to shape services that affect their lives.
Please don’t let Friends2Friends become another service that disappears – together, we can keep the doors open and the friendships going.”
