The new Poundworld store in the Three Spires Shopping Centre was being advertised on a giant mobile screen on Market Street.

But a number of shoppers criticised the screen – which was parked outside the historic Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum – for being out of character with the city centre.

One described it as “bloody awful”.

The advert also drew the attention of Michael Fabricant MP.

He said: “I saw it too. Utterly naff for the centre of Lichfield.

“I have emailed the chief executive of Lichfield District Council about this and copied in the Leader of the council.”

No-one from Poundworld was available for comment.
