A LOCAL MP says it is important that momentum is maintained on the development of a new care home in Burntwood after "years of delays".
A planning application has been submitted for the site at Cherry Close in the town.
If approved, the scheme would see a new health centre and care home built alongside three sports pitches.
Labour MP Dave Robertson welcomed the submission of the application, but said residents should not have had to wait for more than a decade for a new permanent health centre.
He said:
"This is welcome progress and reflects the determination of local residents who have continued to campaign for the health centre Burntwood needs.
"While the submission of the planning application is an important milestone, residents have waited far too long for this project to become a reality.
"We must now maintain momentum and ensure construction progresses on schedule so that the new health centre opens by September 2027.
"Burntwood deserves modern healthcare facilities – and I will continue working with residents and stakeholders to make sure this long-awaited project is finally delivered."
