Younger visitors to the National Memorial Arbortum could soon be able to enjoy a new play area.
Planning permission has been sought for a “tactile and sensory play space” at the Alrewas site.
A spokesperson said: “When designing the play space for the National Memorial Arboretum, we felt a responsibility to create an area which was sympathetic to the surroundings, allowing children to achieve a better understanding of what remembrance means to them.
“The equipment selected was chosen specially to offer play in a more considered sculptural form. Much of this took its influence from existing memorials, in particular the boulders of the Normandy veterans, the tree walkway of the BLESMA and the multiple engravings around the memorial.”
Among the elements included in the proposal are a globe climbing net, a slide, ‘poppy’ balancing steps and a covered memorial walkway.
