A SEVEN-WICKET haul from Nivraj Virk helped Lichfield secure a two-wicket home victory over Wednesbury.
The city men were sent into the field first and made a breakthrough when Thomas Clarke had Arslan Arshad Bajwa caught by James Suttle with the score on 53.
Virk claimed his first victim of a productive afternoon when Abdul Salam was bowled to leave the visitors on 80-2.
It would prove to be the first of a flurry of wickets as Wednesbury slipped to 102-5.
A half-century for Gavin Lord kept the scoreboard ticking over though, but Lichfield eventually skittled the visitors out for 203.
Virk was the star with the ball as he finished with figures of 7-49.
The home side's response saw an early wicket fall when Mohamed Ahmed Tariq Karoual went with the score on 13 in the fourth over.
Lichfield had reached 70 by the time Ihsaan Nadeem was caught after scoring 32 – but the city side soon found themselves on 109-6 and seemingly on their way to defeat.
A fine 49 from Daniel Caddick pushed the scoreboard to 174 before he became the seventh wicket to fall.
Elliot Bowen made 11 before being bowled by Arslan Arshad Bajwa with Lichfield on 191-8 and a tense finish in store.
But Virk (10) and Liam Orgill (29) kept their nerve to see the city men across the line and secure a two-wicket triumph.
