Olympian helps Lichfield students celebrate their achievements

Students from a Lichfield school have been celebrating their achievements with a double Olympic medallists.

Bryan Steel, who picked up silver and bronze after representing Great Britain at four Olympic Games, visited Nether Stowe School to help them mark the completion of their Be The Best You Can programme.

The scheme saw pupils perform various tasks and challenges throughout the year to provide them with skills to help them achieve in every walk of life.

Students had to make a life pledge in front of the year group, before being presented with a medallion made by the same company that behind the London 2012 medals.

Harry Fry, a Year 8 pupil said: “The programme was brilliant as it provided us with lots of new skills.

“It was cool meeting an Olympian too and seeing his medals. It was good that we got a medal of our own.”

Headteacher Ruth Poppleton added: “The students really enjoyed being rewarded for their hard work and receiving such a prestigious award, made it even more worthwhile.”
