A BURNTWOOD organisation is celebrating its tenth anniversary by donating funds to help save lives locally.
The Burntwood and District u3a, which sees members share knowledge in a social environment, invited members of Burntwood Town Council along to the celebration event.
To mark the anniversary the group has donated money to fund a defibrillator to add to the town’s network of life-saving equipment.
Founding member Hazel Whitehouse said:
“Burntwood and District u3a started in July 2015 with just 30 members. Since that time, members have shared their skills and interests in a very wide variety of activities.
“There are presently over 300 members who benefit and contribute to the informal learning and social events.
“Over the years, this organisation has come to mean something very special to all involved. We chose to celebrate our 10th anniversary by reflecting back and acknowledging the fact that everyone plays a part in its success.
“We consider that we have a part to play in the wider society of Burntwood and wished to highlight this and do something of value. We therefore chose to use some of our funds to purchase a defibrillator as we recognised the importance of these in our town.”
Cllr Laura Ennis, Chair of Burntwood Town Council said:
“It was wonderful to be invited to the tenth anniversary of Burntwood and District u3a.
“We enjoyed a display of different activities that are on offer throughout the afternoon and were given a fantastic insight into what the group means to its members.
“I was pleased to receive a cheque from the group to purchase a new defibrillator for Burntwood that the group have been fundraising for. I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done and wish them well for the next ten years”.
