Parents across Lichfield and Burntwood have been finding out if their children have got into their chosen primary school.
Emails have gone out to families with Staffordshire County Council revealing 91 per cent of applicants in the region had been given their first choice school.
Ninety-seven per cent of children were placed in one of their three preferred schools.
Cllr Liz Staples, cabinet member for education and skills said: “A huge percentage of parents in Staffordshire have got their first preference, and have good reason to celebrate today.
“Although the percentage is slightly down from last year, this is due to rise in birth rates in the county and the fact that there are more children needing primary school places in Staffordshire. We are aware of the situation and have already taken comprehensive steps with schools to respond to the issue.
“We’ve recently been awarded nearly £13million towards primary school places in the county, in recognition of rising birth rates across the county which will translate into a demand for extra school places. This makes the fact that we have allocated over 90 per cent of parents their first choice school all the more remarkable, especially considering areas like London have only been able to allocate 78 per cent of first preferences due to the same issue.
“A large number of parents now have very good reason to be pleased as their child starts their school life in a Staffordshire school.”
Letters to parents regarding applications for maintained nursery school places will be sent out by the beginning of May.
