PLANS for a new drive-thru McDonald’s have been rejected due to concerns over the impact on residents living nearby.
The food outlet had tried for a second time to get planning permission for the development on the former Co-op headquarters site on Eastern Avenue.
A previous scheme earlier this year was rejected by Lichfield District Council – and now the fresh attempt has also been turned down.
A decision notice said:
“The proposed opening hours would unacceptably and detrimentally affect the living conditions of nearby properties through noise and disturbance associated with the opening hours and from the coming and goings of patrons and food delivery drivers.”
Cllr Russ Bragger, Labour representative for Stowe ward, said he hoped the restaurant chain would now end their desire to build on the site.
“I welcome the decision to again refuse permission for this drive-thru and restaurant.
“Although I am keen on investment in this part of Lichfield and would welcome more employment, this was the wrong site for McDonald’s as it would adversely affect the local residents.
“I do hope they find a better site away from houses and that this land can be developed for something more appropriate.”
