Plans have been unveiled to transform an empty Lichfield shop into a café-bar.
The application to convert the former Millets store on Tamworth Street has been submitted to Lichfield District Council by the Flaming Spark Company.
If the work gets the go-ahead, the plan is for the premises to open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm on Sundays.
In a statement to support the application the company said:
“It is the intention to operate a full-service café-bar featuring a contemporary menu of moderately priced food which will change throughout the day, offering brunch, lunch, snacks, evening meals and late night bites. The menu will change depending on the season.
“The café-bar section of The Spark will feature a coffee shop with a deli and pastry bar, magazines, newspapers and space/stage for live performers, as well as a small boutique selling handmade jewellery, crafts, unusual gifts and exclusive clothing products.
“Patrons will also be able to purchase the original art which will be displayed inside the premises.”
The applicants have also claimed that the venture should be approved as it would add to the “vitality” of that area of the city centre.
The planning statement continues:
“The proposed café/restaurant would contribute to the vitality and viability of the primary retail area. It will also secure the re-use of vacant premises.”
