Businesses are being urged to back plans to relaunch the Space school summer holiday scheme.
Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis has unveiled plans to bring back the initiative for youngsters aged 11 to 17 in Lichfield and Burntwood.
The original Space scheme was led by Staffordshire Police, but the new version is expected to be delivered by officers alongside local organisations.
Mr Ellis has pledged £140,000 for the project which will feature sports, arts and crafts and music related activities between July 20 and September 4.
But he wants to get businesses involved by offering free publicity for those who put on activities for young people as part of the scheme.
He said: “We would love to work with local businesses to promote their activities under the Space banner on our website.
“The Space scheme has come back to life thanks to the hard work of a small group of colleagues in my office and a real surge of practical support locally. This time around it will be different and will supplement existing activities being supported by local councils, but the principles of the old Space remain the same.
“My hope is that Space 2015 is just the start of a new life for this much-loved and highly successful scheme.”
