Plans for new lifts at Lichfield Trent Valley railway station have been unveiled.

They were shown to the city’s MP Michael Fabricant during a meeting with officials from Network Rail and London Midland in Westminster.

The initial plans will improve accessibility on the split-level station which serves passengers using the Cross City line and West Coast Main Line.

Mr Fabricant said: “Two lifts will be installed at either side of the lower level so that all platforms will be connected. This will not just be for disabled people, but for mums with baby buggies, and passengers with luggage.”

Although he welcomed the plans for improved accessibility, the Conservative MP was keen to highlight other potential improvements to the rail bosses.

He said: “We also discussed the need for 24 hour provision for toilets at both Lichfield City and Lichfield Trent Valley stations, and the need for a disabled ramp to be provided from the new car park at Trent Valley down to platform two.

“There are active plans for 24 hour toilet facilities at both stations and I shall press for the disabled ramp to be installed too.

“This is all good news and while completion is not likely to be until at least the end of next year, funding has been made available and plans are clearly progressing.”
