Schoolchildren have been working with Lichfield District Council’s countryside team to create willow sculptures.
The youngsters from Gentleshaw Primary School have seen their creations installed along one of the new Healthy Heathland walks at Gentleshaw Common.
Chris Walsh, biodiversity officer for Lichfield District Council, said:
“We had a lot of fun working with the children. They’ve created some beautiful sculptures, which are an extra treat for walkers to spot as they follow the yellow route round Gentleshaw. This is one of three new circular walks that we launched at the common last month. The walks are plotted out with arrows and were created to encourage visitors to take some healthy exercise, while exploring the common, without disturbing the fragile habitat or getting lost.”
The team will be leading more willow sculpture events with schools from the Gentleshaw area later this summer.
