The next stage of Lichfield Cathedral’s Inspires project has begun.
Masonry experts Midlands Conservation Limited have been appointed to work on phase two of the project.
The first part of Lichfield Inspires focused on the South Clerestory and was completed in January. This new phase will see attention switched to the masonry on the north side of the building.
The Very Rev’d Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, said:
“The next phase of repairs to the Cathedral is crucial and will maintain the building’s structural integrity. If we had not begun the work we would be compromising the Cathedral’s future.
“Last year, when we were working on the south side, people were fascinated to see the stone masons at work. We hope our visitors will be just as interested in this year’s programme of repairs.”
Following the completion of the work on the north side – which will not disrupt access to the Cathedral – phase three will focus on the Lady Chapel, including the nine 16th century windows.
