A new surcharge has been introduced for people paying council tax or business rates with a credit card.
The two per cent charge was brought in late last year by Lichfield District Council.
A spokesperson explained: “Processing credit card payments costs more, so the surcharge will help us to cover the cost of the additional processing. We are looking to roll this surcharge out to other e-payments soon.
“We also want to discourage people from paying their regular bills such as council tax on credit card, which can lead to more debt in the district.”
