THOUSANDS of people have turned out to enjoy a free community event.
The Burntwood Wakes took place at Burntwood Leisure Centre – and has been hailed as one of the "biggest and best" celebrations in the local community for decades.
Visitors enjoyed stalls, fairground attractions and family activities.
Cllr Darren Ennis, leader of Burntwood Town Council, said:
"I genuinely believe the Burntwood Wakes was one of the biggest and best community events our town has seen in decades.
"Seeing an estimated 8,000 people come together throughout the day was incredible – and the atmosphere from start to finish was something really special.
"Events like this don't just happen. They take months of planning and a huge team effort, so I'd like to say a massive thank you to our staff, councillors, volunteers, sponsors, entertainers, stallholders and community groups who all played their part in making the day such a success.
"But my biggest thank you goes to the people of Burntwood. You came out in your thousands, supported your local community and created an atmosphere that was simply amazing. Seeing so many families enjoying themselves together is exactly what community is all about.
"As leader of Burntwood Town Council, it makes me incredibly proud to see our town come together like this. Burntwood has a fantastic community spirit – and the wakes showed that in abundance.
"We're already looking at how we can build on this success and make next year's event even better."
