Tributes have been paid following the death of a former chairman of Lichfield District Council.
Tony Brookes served on the local authority for more than 30 years as a representative for the Fazeley ward.
Councillors paid tribute to the former Labour group leader, who also served as council chairman in 1998-99, at a meeting this week.
Cllr Steve Norman said:
“Tony was a good guy – he tried to get angry at council meetings but he couldn’t do it, he was too nice a chap.
“He was a good leader and would always listen to the other side – I’m sorry he’s gone.”

“Tony used to fight hard on encroachment of takeaways because he didn’t want to see the character of Fazeley undermined. Sadly for Tony that is the way it seems to have gone.
“The ward of Fazeley is a very diverse place and Tony represented everyone fairly. He was an excellent councillor.”

“I remember Tony as a really caring and compassionate person who was really helpful to all of us.
“He was very strong in his beliefs but had a heart of gold.”
