SANDFIELDS Pumping Station has been illuminated to highlight Brain Tumour Awareness Month.
The initiative is part of national campaign, but also paid tribute to Chris Pattison, a founder of Lichfield Waterworks Trust, who died in 2024 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
A spokesperson for the trust said:
“This time of year is particularly poignant for everyone involved with Sandfields Pumping Station.
“Chris was a steadfast supporter of the Lichfield Waterworks Trust and its mission to conserve and celebrate the historic pumping station. He was personally responsible for putting Sandfields on the radar of so many people which ultimately led to its survival.
“During the next 11 years, he kept up the pressure to save Sandfields. In 2015, along with Gill and David Moore, became a founding trustee of Lichfield Waterworks Trust.
“For the next nine years Chris was the finance manager, keeping us on the financial straight and narrow and making sure we always had enough money to pay our bills.
“Chris’ dedication and enthusiasm played a vital role in the ongoing project to protect and share this nationally significant heritage site, and his legacy continues to be honoured through the Chris Pattison Archive, the trust’s nationally important collection documenting the history of the site and the wider story of water supply and engineering.”
