Warning after reports of people swimming in Chasewater

Police urge parents to highlight risks to children.

Chasewater

POLICE have issued a fresh warning after reports of people swimming in Chasewater.

Officers say it is important that parents make children aware of the risks of entering open water.

Cold water shock, hidden hazards beneath the surface and strong currents are among the potentially life-threatening consequences, police say.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said:

"While it may be tempting to cool off during warm weather, entering open water can be extremely dangerous.

"Entering the water can place not only those involved at risk, but also members of the emergency services who may be required to respond.

"We are asking parents and guardians to speak with their children and young people about the dangers of swimming in open water and the importance of following safety signage around Chasewater."
