Another stretch of the Lichfield Canal could soon see water flowing again after contractors began work on the latest phase of the project.
The Darnford Moors ecological improvements will be created thanks to £116,200 of funding from the European Regional Development Fund and HS2’s Community and Environment Fund.
Volunteers from Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust have already carried out preparatory works, with specialist contractors from Onsite Central Limited now on site to begin work which will see water put into the canal channel east of the liftbridge to help create an aquatic habitat.

“This is an exciting time for the trust as we look forward to seeing another section of the Lichfield Canal in water.
“This is all thanks to our volunteers successfully bidding for the funding and carrying out a huge amount of preparatory work to the area.”

As well as helping to put the canal in water, the scheme will also include broader habitat improvements.
