A CELEBRATION on the water will highlight the benefits that could be brought to the area by the restoration of the Lichfield Canal.
The Brownhills Canal Festival – organised by the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (LHCRT) – takes place from 10am to 4pm on 15th and 16th August.
Now in its sixth year, the event will feature floating traders, historic boats, private boats and land-based stalls.
The trust said its work would eventually see the waterway connecting the Lichfield Canal with the Wyrley and Essington Canal in Brownhills, as well as the wider national network.
Christine Howles, from LHCRT, said:
"We're pleased to bring the Brownhills Canal Festival back again this year.
"With Brownhills sitting at the top end of the Lichfield Canal, it makes perfect sense for us to bring the community together, showcase the canal at Silver Street – a stretch that currently sees little boat use – and highlight the importance of the Lichfield Canal restoration for the future of the waterways in both Brownhills and Lichfield.
"Despite the summer weather threatening us with water shortages across the canal network for another year, we're pleased to say that all of our boats are still on track to make it as planned."
