A key part in the reconstruction of a bridge over the West Coast Main Line in Lichfield is nearing completion.
Work will begin on Saturday to lift the beams of an access bridge into place for the new Liberty Park development in Streethay.
The new industrial and warehouse development is expected to create up to 1,100 jobs, but has meant the old bridge had to be removed on Christmas Day.
But ten 33-tonne concrete beams flanked by two 40-tonne beams will allow vehicles to travel over the railway line once more.
Staffordshire County Councillor Mark Winnington said: “The bridge installation at Liberty Park marks a major step forward in the development which is progressing on schedule.
“It means our infrastructure works should be complete by the end of the year.
“The Liberty Park development is significant for Lichfield and for Staffordshire.”
The project has been backed by £4million from the Government’s Growth Deal and was the first such project to get underway in the county.
The new bridge is expected to should be completed by late autumn, while the project will also see improvements to Burton Old Road to improve access to the site.
Andrew Blevins, managing director of Liberty Property Trust, said: “Since Liberty Park was launched in March this year, it has already attracted interest from potential occupiers well placed to create jobs and economic growth for the region.”
