WHITTINGTON residents have been celebrated in the Citizen of the Year Awards.
The Whittington Parish Council honours those who have made a difference in the local area.
Garry Hyde was named Resident of the Year, while Fortress Recycling took the Business of the Year title
The council also honoured Whittington Soccer Centre and its founder Steve Kirk following his recent death.
A spokesperson said:
“Steve and his family lived here for many years, before moving north – and Steve also worked at the local school as business manager and site manager.
“It is reassuring to know that the next generation of the Kirk family is still involved in running the soccer centre, and it was entirely appropriate that the parish council agreed to recognise Steve’s contribution with an award in the form of a plaque for meritorious service.”
