APPLICATIONS have opened for the Burntwood Town Council Student Award.
Celebrating the life and achievements of Stephen Sutton MBE, the accolade gives a helping hand to talented young people living in Burntwood.
Those aged between 11 and 19 can apply for one of two £1,000 awards to help them develop their talents and go on to even greater achievements.
The money can be used to assist with things such as purchasing specialist equipment, accessing extra tuition or coaching, competition fees and travel.
Cllr Sue Woodward, chair of Burntwood Town Council, said:
"Our Student Award has proved invaluable to students in our town who need that bit of extra support to develop their talents.
"Whether for equipment, for additional training, to help cover travel costs or for anything else they might need, we want to encourage our talented young people to apply.
"Set up originally to honour the memory of Stephen Sutton who, in his short life, brought so many positives to Burntwood and the whole country, the Student Award is a fitting tribute to him and our town’s talented young people.”
