A NEW reading project has been launched at Chase Terrace Community Centre.
Holly Grove Primary Academy and Coffee Mates – a social group for older people – have joined together to share a love of reading and books.
They plan to meet monthly for the intergenerational sessions.
Cllr Sue Woodward, vice chair at Burntwood Town Council and a member of Coffee Mates, said:
“Holly Grove’s project to encourage intergenerational reading partnerships is one I am really pleased to support and be part of.
“I hope it will be a real boost for young readers and a source of great pleasure to us older ones.”
Dawn O’Hare, headteacher at Holly Grove Primary Academy, said:
“The children from Holly Grove Primary Academy had a super time as they met with older people at Chase Terrace Community Centre for an intergenerational reading session.
“It was wonderful to see the joy and connection that sharing stories brings across generations. Our pupils are already looking forward to the next event.”
