A CONSULTATION has been launched on plans for up to 250 new homes on land in Mile Oak.
Bloor Homes is hoping to create a “development of net zero carbon-ready” properties on the plot west of Sutton Road and south of Hints Road.
The developer is currently preparing an outline planning application for the site.
As well as new homes, the land – which Bloor Homes says is classed as grey belt – would see existing hedgerows and woodland retained and the creation of new public open spaces and a children’s play area.
Emma Foster, senior planning manager at Bloor Homes, said:
“We are pleased to have launched our consultation on proposals for high-quality homes, green public open spaces and community facilities at Mile Oak.
“Our vision for this new neighbourhood goes beyond simply building houses – we want to create a sustainable, landscape-led community where people can thrive.
“The plans prioritise extensive green public spaces, preserve existing mature trees and the majority of hedgerows, create new woodland areas and will deliver significant biodiversity enhancements.
“With up to 50% of the homes being affordable, this development will provide exceptional opportunities for first-time buyers and those on lower incomes to secure a home in this well-connected location.
“We believe that great communities are shaped by the people who live in them, which is why we’re actively seeking local input on the types of homes and amenities needed.

The developer said all of the new homes would be gas-free and built to be net zero carbon-ready, incorporating air source heat pumps, solar panels, uprated insulation and EV charging infrastructure.
Road improvements are also being planned which could see speed limits on Sutton Road reduced to 30mph and an extension of the speed limit on Hints Road. A toucan crossing could also be installed on Sutton Road.
