The local authority estimates that their are around 100 properties which are classified as long term empty across Lichfield and Burntwood.

It is now using Empty Homes Week, which runs from October 16 to 22 to highlight the work it is doing to liaise with property owners to get them back into use.

Councillor Doug Pullen, Cabinet member for housing, said: “Derelict properties can blight local communities and, with housing in short supply, they are wasted opportunities to create much needed homes.

“Empty Homes Week is a good opportunity to highlight this issue locally, and to urge people to contact us if they own an empty property or are worried about a derelict property and want it dealt with.”

Anyone concerned about an empty property can contact Lichfield District Council on 01543 308000 or email housing@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
