A COUNCILLOR has welcomed the transfer of a car park to a local football club.
An original proposal for the facility on Church Street to be taken on by Chasetown Football Club was originally put forward to Staffordshire County Council in 2018.
But Cllr Robin Hall, Reform UK representative for Burntwood South, said he was “delighted” the agreement had finally progressed.
He said:
“Back in 2018, a matter was opened to transfer a car park from Staffordshire County Council to Chasetown FC – it was non-contentious, made complete sense and the benefits for everyone were obvious. But for one reason or another, it has dragged on ever since.
“When I was elected in May, I was contacted by one of the club’s directors who quite rightly voiced his frustration. The case was clear – maintenance of the car park passing to the football club would allow them to brand and manage it properly, help alleviate parking pressures on Church Street and support a club that gives so much back to our community.
“I’m delighted to say that after much haranguing, the contract and Land Registry documents are now agreed and are in the post to the club’s excellent management team.
“I’m really looking forward to attending my first official Chasetown match and finally seeing this long-overdue piece of common sense delivered for the club and the wider community.”
