PLANS to divide a former Lichfield bank into two retail units have been drawn up.
The Breadmarket Street site has sat empty since the closure of Barclays in 2023.
Now an application to Lichfield District Council hopes to breathe new life into the building.
A planning statement said:
“To accommodate the separation of the ground floor units, minor external alterations are proposed, with two entrances relocated and widened glazing proposed to create more attractive and easily identifiable shopfronts.
“The proposed development is in line with the current market conditions with demand for retail space, while encouraging the preservation and enhancement of the historic environment and local economy.
The proposal seeks to retain the original character of the 1970s building, by only introducing contemporary elements to create high quality and attractive frontages, which is more in keeping with other nearby retail premises.”
The application said potential outlets for the building had already been identified.
“The proposal is brought forward with future retail occupiers engaged meaning it will not be subject to any speculative use or commercial marketing, while also showing market demand for the proposed use.”
