A FORMER police officer from Burntwood has been handed a suspended jail sentence after admitting four sexual assaults.
Alex Trusler was sentenced to 42 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, at Northampton Crown Court today (8th September).
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty at the same court in July to four counts of sexual assault that took place in 2023. He has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
Trusler, who was a response officer in Cannock, was suspended in September 2023 after the allegations were reported. He resigned last week.
A gross misconduct hearing found that he would have been dismissed had he not resigned and that he had breached the standards of respect and courtesy and discreditable conduct. These breaches amounted to gross misconduct.
Trusler has been placed on the national College of Policing’s Barred List, preventing him from working within policing and other law enforcement bodies.
Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh said:
"Alex Trusler's actions represent a serious breach of the trust placed in police officers and fall far below the standards of professionalism, integrity and respect expected of everyone who serves with Staffordshire Police.
"As soon as these allegations were reported, he was suspended from duty, and a thorough investigation was launched by our Anti-Corruption Unit.
"His guilty pleas reflect the seriousness of his offending. There is no place in policing for individuals who abuse their position or engage in this kind of behaviour.
"I would like to thank the victims for the courage they have shown throughout this investigation. We remain committed to taking robust action whenever allegations of this nature are made and will always work to maintain the confidence of the public we serve."
