Labour’s candidate says he is prepared to “outwork” his Conservative rival ahead of the 2017 General Election.
Chris Worsey finished second in the polls behind Michael Fabricant in 2015.
But despite being more than 18,000 votes adrift of the Conservatives last time out, the Labour hopeful says his campaign gave the Tories sleepless nights last time out.
“We gave Michael Fabricant and the Tories a real scare in 2015,” Mr Worsey said. “I beat him in the first two debates which meant he didn’t even turn up for the third debate.
“A few Tories told me that on election day 2015 Michael was seriously worried about the result. I’m not surprised after the lacklustre campaign he ran.
“We outworked the Tories last time and I’m sure we will again. I knocked on thousands of doors over 18 months before the vote in 2015, while Michael sat in London writing tweets.”
