The new Friarsgate development means “exciting times” are ahead for the city, according to bosses at the Lichfield Business Improvement District.
Planning chiefs approved the city centre redevelopment earlier this month.
The new project will see the creation of a cinema, gym, shops, restaurants and residential properties.
Morag Pringle, city centre manager for the Lichfield BID, said the development would be a boost for the area.
“Lichfield has the most amazing array of independent and unique shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a good selection of national companies,” she said.
“The new Friarsgate area of the city will allow us to bring in even more choice for our shoppers and added entertainment for local residents and visitors alike.
“These are exciting times for Lichfield and I am looking forward to a prosperous future.”
Estimates from Lichfield District Council suggest Friarsgate will bosst shopping turnover from £55million to £107million by 2022.
Paul Maddox, Chairman of Lichfield BID, added: “We are keen to see improvements to the city centre that will help to attract more people, by offering greater choice.
“We hope to be able to work with the developers over the coming months, to ensure that we encourage a range of new businesses into Lichfield, that will complement the wonderful selection we already have in the city.”
