Lichfield’s MP says a Burntwood school is blossoming after becoming part of an academy group.
Boney Hay Primary Academy became part of the Staffordshire University Academy Trust on January 1.
Michael Fabricant, Conservative MP for Lichfield, visited the school and spoke to students and staff about the changes.
He said: “ I was so impressed with my visit to Boney Hay Primary Academy – the kids are full of enthusiasm as are the teachers and teaching assistants. It’s a really vibrant and happy school.
“I also think that the tie up with Staffordshire University Academy Trust is inspired. It translates into real aspiration for the children that their school is linked in this way.
“I was really pleased that most children in a class had visited the House of Commons and seemed to know more about standing orders than I do.”
The school’s principal, Jen Matthewman, said the link-up was already reaping rewards for the students.
She said: “Through our collaboration, we are able to offer the pupils new opportunities in a range of areas.
“One year group are working with professional chefs from the university, other groups have worked alongside the School of Journalism and will be meeting up with pupils from other academies in the trust.
“We are able to raise the aspirations of all pupils and have more control over our spending, curriculum and school improvement advisors.
“We are at the forefront of embracing the new educational landscape and know that this decision will always ensure that the child is the centre of all that we do.”
