A LICHFIELD retailer is celebrating England’s journey to the final of the Women’s Euros by offering to sponsor kits for grassroots girls’ football teams.

Central Co-op says the tribute will “symbolically reflect” the 11 players who take to the pitch in the showpiece in Switzerland by supporting 11 teams across the company’s trading area.

The squad – including former Erasmus Darwin Academy student Hannah Hampton – will take on Spain in the final tomorrow (27th July).

Members are invited to nominate a deserving local girls’ team for sponsorship by emailing communitygiving@central.co.uk with their Central Co-op membership number and contact details, and explaining in up to 50 words why the team should be supported.

Sarah Dickins, chief operating officer for food, member and customers at Central Co-op, said:

“This summer has been inspirational for women’s football, and we want to keep that momentum going in our local communities.

“We’re proud to back the grassroots game and support the next generation of Lionesses.”

The final 11 teams selected will receive £900 to fund a Central Co-op sponsored kit.
