Pupils from a Lichfield school have helped fly the flag for Armed Forces Day.
Maple Hayes Dyslexia School youngsters were invited to the help Cllr Kenneth Humphreys, chairman of Lichfield District Council, hoist a special flag fly a special British flag.
The students, aged between eight and 11-years-old, were given a tour of the Council House before being introduced to former chairman, Cllr Bernard Derrick, who served 24 years in the British Army, with both the Royal Signals and the Mercian Volunteers.
Cllr Humphreys said: “Armed Forces Day is the perfect opportunity to show respect and thanks to all those who are serving, and have served, on behalf of our country. Hopefully this will be a memorable experience for Maple Hayes’ pupils, who kindly helped us raise the flag in support.”
Dr Brown, headteacher at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School, added: “It is important to us that our pupils gain a good understanding of the British Armed Forces and how vital they are to the peace and security of our nation, both historically and in the present day.
“We were honoured to have been asked to help raise the flag and I’m confident that our pupils will be among those showing their support to our brave servicemen and women this weekend.”
