A group working to restore the Lichfield Canal were joined by the city’s MP as they celebrated their 30th birthday.

Members of the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust toasted the landmark on their stand at the Lichfield Rotary Cars in the Park event at the weekend.
They were joined by Conservative MP Michael Fabricant who said he hoped the group would continue to go from strength to strength.
“I refused to toast the next 30 years as I hope the canals will be restored long before then,” he said.
“I did work out that, in theory, just one day’s worth of payment to the EU would be enough money to complete the Lichfield Canal. That would be a great Brexit dividend, though I doubt if I’ll be able to persuade the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, to give it to us.”
