The role of women in warfare will be marked with a centenary event at the National Memorial Arboretum.

The Royal British Legion will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps on July 7.

The creation of the WAAC was the first time women had formally enrolled in the Armed Forces, with the event in Alrewas aiming to recognise their contribution over the past century.

The event – which takes place at 11.30am – is all-ticket but will be screened live in Heroes’ Square for other visitors to view.
