Rail bosses have been urged to make sure the introduction of disabled access facilities at Lichfield Trent Valley station are not delayed.
The city’s MP Michael Fabricant tackled new rail minister Paul Maynard on the issue in the House of Commons.
Plans have been drawn up to install lifts to allow access to two of the three platforms on the split-level station.
Mr Fabricant told his colleague that Lichfield commuters were getting “rather irritated” by the issue.
The minister replied, saying that the future of the scheme should soon become clearer.
“Some of the Access for All funding was re-prioritised,” he said. “I am hoping to announce very shortly which stations will be prioritised again.
“I stop in Lichfield Trent Valley often myself — largely in the dark, I must confess — and I am sure there is a great need for improved accessibility there.”
Mr Fabricant said he would meet with the Minister to ensure Lichfield is not forgotten.
“Previous transport ministers had given me assurances that Lichfield is a high priority, but with a change of leadership, I want the new transport team to know that my campaign for access to all three platforms remains a priority,” the MP said.
“Construction work was originally scheduled to begin before the end of the year. I hope it will not be delayed.”
