PUPILS from local schools have celebrated reading and kindness at a Burntwood Library event.
Youngsters from Holly Grove Primary Academy, Highfields Primary Academy, Ridgeway Primary Academy and Henry Chadwick Primary School were invited to take part in a competition all about their favourite books.
The winning entries were turned into book boxes which were then donated to Pathway Project, Burntwood Food Bank and the children’s wards at Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.
Dawn O’Hare, headteacher at Holly Grove Primary Academy, said:
“The aim of the project was simple but heartfelt – to share the comfort, excitement and escapism that books can bring with children and families who might need it most.
“As part of the celebration at Burntwood Library, pupils also took part in a scavenger hunt organised by the library team, exploring shelves and stories while working together in small groups.
“After presenting their book boxes, the children were treated to a charming tea party, kindly hosted by the Friends of Burntwood Library.
“The event brought together creativity, community spirit, and a love of reading – and gave pupils the chance not only to celebrate books, but to make a meaningful difference to others.”
