The way shoppers pay for parking in Lichfield could change after details of a new trial emerged.
Lichfield District Council and the city’s Business Improvement District (BID) have introduced post rather than pre-payment on the upper deck of the Lombard Upper Level car park.
The move will see visitors able to pay for their stay by card.
A report to a meeting of the economic growth overview and scrutiny committee said it was hoped the trial could boost trade.
“The BID is working with Lichfield District Council to develop a car parking payment trial that will allow for payments to be made for time actually spent parking, thus hoping for a longer stay rather than rushing back in time for the expiry of the ticket.
“These plans are on-going as we strive to ensure that the right systems are used, they are flexible enough to be future proofed and allow as much flexibility for anyone who chooses to access the city by car.”
Pre-paid pay and display will also be available on the car park during the trial period.
The proposal will be discussed at a meeting on March 29.
