WHITTINGTON residents are being asked to play their part in impressing the Heart of England in Bloom judges.

The competition will see the village’s efforts examined in early July as locals bid to land a sixth successive Gold Award.

A spokesperson said:

“An enormous amount of work goes on behind the scenes by the Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group, the parish council and many other organisations and individuals.

“But everyone can do their bit. The strategically placed flower troughs around the village, lovingly tended by dedicated volunteers, have certainly improved the appearance of the village in recent years for casual visitors and residents alike.

“A new one has just been added by the bus stop at the top end of Main Street to mirror the one which has already brightened up a previously slightly drab area of the village.”
