The scheme aims to introduce young people to sailing and windsurfing through low cost sessions.

Gary Harborow, petty officer and senior instructor, said: “We are delighted to be OnBoard and will be using it as part of our recruitment and school engagements, together with the excellent resources to support our local offer.

“Sailing allows for individuals and groups to enjoy their environment in a sometimes relaxed and sometimes exhilarating experience.

“There are no boundaries created by academic ability, and it is so fulfilling as a volunteer to see young people who might struggle with formal training in other disciplines excelling in this.”

Since 2005, the OnBoard programme has introduced more than 900,000 to sailing and windsurfing across the UK.

Alistair Dickson, RYA director of sport development, added: “We are delighted to welcome Tamworth and Lichfield Sea Cadets to OnBoard.

“It is fantastic more local youngsters now have these opportunities on their doorsteps.”
