Joanne Grange will contest both seats in the upcoming Stowe ward by-elections.

The Conservative candidate will aim to hold onto the seat vacated by David Smedley.

Joanne, who moved to Lichfield 12 years ago, believes she can bring fresh ideas to both councils.

“Being an accountant will help me to ensure that council tax is spent in the best way, that the councils are efficient, and that value for money is a key focus,” she said.

Joanne, who recently became a grandmother for the first time, added that being in the middle of a five-generation family also puts her in a good position to understand issues from different perspectives – and insisted she was keen to fight for equality at all levels.

“From finding nursing homes and dementia care, through to affordable housing and childcare for younger families, my family has seen a lot over the past couple of years, so I’m used to looking at issues through others’ eyes,” she said. “When someone needs me to help with a problem, they can be sure I’ll understand where they’re coming from.

“In this, the centenary year of women’s suffrage, it’s good to look back and see how far society has come but there’s still more to do for complete equality.

“For me, equality means equality of opportunity for everyone to achieve their potential – regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, disability or background – and I believe councils have a key role to play in ensuring those opportunities are available through working with local businesses to create new jobs and employment opportunities and driving forward the local economy.

“If elected, I will be honoured to represent Stowe residents as part of the team of Conservative Councillors and I’m committed to working hard to ensure all residents are represented effectively.”
