Councillors in Lichfield and Burntwood have requested training in public speaking, personal safety and managing their time.

The requests for sessions were revealed in a report to Lichfield District Council’s employment committee.

The local authority has a budget of £5,000 a year for supporting the development of its councillors – but just 28 of the 46 members have replied outlining their training needs.

The most requested session was around commercialisation (12), while eight councillors requested data protection and freedom of information support.

Other requests were:

  • IT training (8)
  • Developing partnerships and community engagement (7)
  • Overview and scurtiny skills (5)
  • Speed reading (5)
  • Public speaking (4)
  • Managing time effectively (3)
