LICHFIELD City’s slump in form continued as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Rugby Town.
Joe Haines had put Ivor Green’s men in front before Rivel Mardenborough levelled things up.
Caine Elliot put Rugby ahead, only for Lichfield’s Harvey Smith to even up a rollercoaster game once again.
But the final word went to the home side who secured a 3-2 triumph when Kobi Bivens scored ten minutes into the second half.
It was City who made the brighter start to the game, with Smith forcing an early save from home keeper Marcus Bald before Leighton McMenemey’s header was also kept out.
Lichfield got their noses in front after 12 minutes when Jack Edwards’ free-kick was nodded home by Haines.
The scoreboard was level five minutes later through when a shot was cleared off the line but dropped to the feet of Mardenborough who tucked away the loose ball.
City tried to hit back with Elkes heading wide from a corner.
Rugby were in front on the half-hour mark when Brendon Bunn saved but Jamie Elkes was adjudged to have committed a foul in the follow up. Home captain Elliot made no mistake from the resulting spot kick.
Lichfield almost levelled shortly afterwards when Bald did well to keep out Haines’ close range volley.
Five minutes into the second half City made it 2-2 when a corner was kept in play by McMenemey who picked out Smith to apply the finish.
Bunn made a low save as Rugby tried to make an instant response – but he could do nothing as shot from Bevins deflected over him and into the net to pick up the points.
