LICHFIELD City’s miserable run of form in the league continued as they slumped to defeat against struggling Loughborough Students.
Despite the hosts sitting bottom of the table at kick-off, a goal from their captain Sam Fielding was enough to take all three points.
City skipper Josh Mansell said it had been another disappointing afternoon for his side:
“It’s one of the lowest points of my career – six straight league defeats.
“Luck is not on our side at the minute, but I and the other lads will give everything to turn this round.
“It’s time for us to stand up and keep going as our luck will change.”
Loughborough carved out the first chance of note, forcing Lichfield keeper Brendon Bunn into a smart save before Jamie Elkes blocked the follow up.
Elliot Hartley blazed a strike just over the bar as City tried to find an opener.
But it was Bunn who was being kept busiest of the two keepers as he made a spectacular double save from close range to keep the scores level.
The City stopper could do nothing to prevent the hosts from opening the scoring just after the half-hour though as Fielding’s effort deflected into the net.
John Mills had a shot saved in the second period as Lichfield looked to find a way back into the game.
They went even closer when Harvey Smith’s header from a corner was cleared off the line.
City continued to pile on the pressure in the latter stages as Jack Edwards saw a shot deflect just wide, but it wasn’t to be as the visitors returned home empty-handed.
