A Lichfield councillor has been named as the new deputy leader of Staffordshire County Council.
Cllr Alan White, the Cabinet member for health, care and wellbeing, has been selected to replace Ian Parry, who stepped down last month after seven years in the role.
Staffordshire County Council leader Cllr Philip Atkins said the new deputy would bring “drive and enthusiasm” to the post.
“During his time on Cabinet, Alan has brought great clarity and vision to the hugely complex and challenging area of health and social care and has a great passion to make the lives of Staffordshire people better ones,” he said.
“I have no doubt he will bring this drive and enthusiasm to his new role as deputy leader and will play a key role in delivering a stronger and even more effective county council.”
Cllr White, who represents Lichfield Rural East and also sits on Lichfield District Council, will continue to lead on health and social care as part of his new role.
He said: “I came into politics to do what I can to improve the lives of the people I represent, whether that is through better employment, better education or better health.
“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with like-minded colleagues at the county council and although the former deputy leader Ian Parry is undoubtedly going to be a tough act to follow, I am delighted colleagues have put their trust in me by selecting me for this role.”
