Local opposition to a plan to rename the Old Mining College Centre has forced the proposals to be ditched.
Burntwood Town Council had put forward the idea of rebranding the Queen Street site as the Town Hall, before deferring a decision for a consultation to take place.
An online petition was also launched by local residents, while the Labour opposition group on the council said such a move would damage the area’s mining heritage.
But Burntwood Town Council has now confirmed the plans have been rejected completely.
A spokesperson said: “Given the strength of feeling already expressed by the tenants, user groups and local residents against the proposed name change, we have withdrawn any proposal to rename the Old Mining College Centre.
“The building will continue to operate under its current name forward.”
