Residents have handed over a petition calling for changes at a “dangerous” junction in Lichfield.
Locals handed over the list of signatures to Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Ray after increasing concerns over the junction between Eastern Avenue and Grange Lane.
They say a long-term solution is needed before a serious accident happens.
Cllr Ray said: “Local residents are angry about the lack of action and are very concerned about the situation. They live by this junction and see on a day-to-day basis how dangerous it is.
“It is plain to see that there is a treatable pattern of accidents and there is a clear remedial measure that could be taken to deal with this, such as a roundabout. This must now be prioritised by Staffordshire Highways for funding.
“I and local residents have been discussing this issue with county councillors for some time now. But they are just not listening and not accepting that a long-term solution is needed to make this junction safe.
“I will now be presenting this petition to the and demand an answer about what they are going to do. Will they just let things carry on until there is a very serious or fatal accident? I and local residents will just not accept that.”
Cllr Ray said the close proximity to The Friary School has only added to local concern.
“A long term solution must be prioritised before it is too late,” he said. “I fear that there will be very serious or fatal accident and I do not then want to read a subsequent report into that accident that recommends a long-term solution.
“This needs action now.”
