Hammerwich CC suffered a four wicket defeat a the hands of Highcroft and Great Barr CC.

Batting first, they got off to a poor start when opener Edward Jarvis (3) was dismissed LBW by Ian Chandler with just six runs on the board.

But Neil Smytheman and Brian Fisher (24) took the Hammerwich tally to 62-2 before the latter fell victim to the bowling of Richard Foord.

Foord then added the wicket of Smytheman (38) with the score at 74-3.

Highcroft and Great Barr then began to turn the screw on Hammerwich as Josh Allen (12), Zak Shingler (18) and Laurence Burford (7) all went to leave the scorecard reading 109-6.

Dean Permberton offered some resistance before Jatinder Samra removed him for 18.

Brendon Buchanan and Tom Rayne added three each before Hammerwich were dismissed for 163 all out.

Highcroft and Great Barr openers Stephen Jordan (14) and Mohammed Zubair put on 44 for the first wicket before the latter was captured lbw by Jarvis.

Zubair passed the half-century mark and went on to make a strong 55 before Jarvis added his second wicket with Fisher claiming the catch with the score at 78-2. But any hopes of getting a foothold in the game evaporated as Samra hit 22 and Aaron Tozer punched 31.

Samra was eventually caught by Shingler off Pemberton’s bowling, before new batsman Craig Reynolds (10) was bowled by Rayne.

Tozer was caught by Smytheman from a Buchanan ball, before the bowler struck again as Fisher caught Ian Chandler (15).
